Description
With Herbarium, Alexander Raczka is developing a series of paintings for the 2026 Urban Art Biennale, based on an artistic exploration of the territory between the rivers Meuse and Saar. Following a journey lasting several weeks between the Völklinger Hütte and his studio in Dompcevrin in the Meuse department of north-eastern France, the artist collected materials, images and impressions that have been incorporated into his works. Drawing on the principle of a herbarium or atlas, the canvases function as sites of contemplation: they map and document not only geographical spaces, but also mental and intimate spheres – ranging from industrial sites to personal retreats such as the studio.
